The Accra, Ghana temple greets us every morning as we walk out our front door.

Can you balance a crate of coconuts on your head?  Don't just think balance, think weight,  40-50lbs.
Street vendors carrying dried fruit, water bottles, shoe shine kits, wall hangings, etc walk between the cars selling to anyone through their car windows.

We toured the Ghana National Mosque, built by the Africn Muslim Commiunity but funded by the Turkish Government (10 million dollars).  It is made of marble and stained glass windows with walls filled with calligraphic verses from the Quran.

The lines on the carpet allow Muslims who pray six times a day to kneel facing their most holy place, Mecca, Saudi Arabia.  Their religious leader, an Imam is 105 years old.

The children doing a craft at the library where I want to volunteer.  The "library" is a metal shipping container filled with books and puzzles.

"We should embrace our old age. In Africa, the respect for elders is a value instilled and upheld by all. Here we feel a deep sense of respect. For instance, when we inquire about the location of an item in a store, the staff promptly stop what they're doing to walk us to the item, show us where it is, retrieve it from the shelf, and insist on carrying it to our cart." -Ross

  1. This is DeAnn. Thanks for the cool post. I had to laugh when you put the two of you in the "old age" category.
