A Glimpse Behind the Scenes: What Keeps Us Busy?

There are a limited number of jobs available in a country where 38% of the population are children ages  1-14, 38% 15-35, and 4% older Even people with university degrees from abroad wait an average of 2-4 years to be employed.  The average citizen creates their own income by standing, walking, or putting out a table to sell something, anything.

Independance Arch celebrates the Gold Coast's (now Ghana) independance from Britian in 1961--they were the first sub-Saharan African county to gain that freedom.

A self-made wagon.  Often you will see them much larger, surrounding a bicycle.  The larger ones are a "taxi" and a small personal business all wrapped up in one.

We took a wrong turn one night and ended up on a highway with no exit for a long time.  Apparently that was unacceptable because at one point a dirt road was opened up creating an exit--kind of.  It actually was a bumpy ride down  a hill into a culvert with a large pipe just big enough for one car to go through under the highway.  (Like this one, just without water.) Once we were out of the pipe there was no road to the highway--just a dirt patch with large holes we had to bounce through until we could squeeze back onto the highway.  And as we were one of 50+ cars coming from both sides each taking their turn through the pipe, we knew the exits were official.
